Today’s Emo kids are tomorrow’s future.
It could be because a certain celebrity’s band has toured Australia recently, or the fact that I saw Spiderman 3 last night and Peter Parker makes an unexpected emo transformation, but I have been noticing more and more that the number of emo kids seems to be on the rise. With so many young’ins choosing the black skinny jeans look it makes me wonder if there is something I’m missing there, I mean, do emo punks deserve respect?
My knee jerk reaction is no, dear god no, don’t encourage them. Bands like 30 Seconds to Mars, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Good Charlotte, Taking Back Sunday, Panic! At The Disco etc that are really successful definitely know what the formula is, and know how to make a ton of cash out of it. Especially in the case of Jared Leto’s 30 Seconds to Mars, which seems to just be a way for Leto to pump up his ego and make some cash while his acting career is stalled.
But do they mean it? My Chemical Romance seem to just want an excuse to wear military outfits and talk about how difficult their album of the moment was to make, while who know what the hell is up with Fall Out Boy, at least they seem a little more upbeat and less dressed for their own funeral. I suppose you can never tell completely, but reading article with Gerard Way always makes me roll my eyes, I mean, people who are depressed usually don’t talk about their depression so openly, which makes me suspicious.
One band that may get slightly more cred is Good Charlotte, based simply on the fact that they were poor trailer park boys that became successful. But when it comes down to it, does that mean they should get more respect than Leto? Yeah probably, but I still don’t have to like their music.
I guess what it comes down to is that as long as there’s a demand for emotional music that is still loud enought to piss off your parents, there will be Emo/punk musicians. I guess I wish people would listen to stuff that, while is emotional, is also really good as well, musicians like Dashboard Confessional and Bright Eyes (which are also labelled emo but seem to be in a different category of emo- go figure)
I should probably just not waste my time thinking about it.
*On another but slightly related note, I just recieved a comic called Emo Boy recently that I would recommend, especially if you too are annoyed with Emo types.

You’ve got to earn respect…for an Emo to get some they’d have to do something. Unlikely
May 15, 2007 at 11:15 am
I’ve been meaning to write something about this for a while. It seems to me that the meaning of the word emo is getting more and more complicated, to the point it that it’s nearly as useless as the word ‘rock’. I direct you to allmusic’s (somewhat dated) definition.
May 15, 2007 at 12:29 pm
Yeah it also seems like as the term emo gets more and more complicated, it also looses some of its meaning, which at one time could have been good. I remember referring to something as ‘emo’ in a good way in the 90’s, for bands like Weezer or Death Cab for Cutie.
I eagerly await the next music tag so I can then criticise that.
May 28, 2007 at 1:29 am
in all fairness, jared leto has been rockin’ the eyeliner since 2001.
and notice how when peter parker became emo he also became really mean? coincidetial? i think not.
June 6, 2007 at 6:38 am
i wish everyone would check there facts before publishing there stupid frickin opinions.
“emo’s” are NOT to blame for depression.
just because they wear black doesnt mean they are evil…
im sick of everyone looking sideways. judging them, while keeping their distance…
so what? we listen to music that is “hard-core” get over it!!!
the kids in this photo arent even “emo”
June 6, 2007 at 6:52 am
Damn right they deserve respect, they are just the same as every other person. they are unique in their own way
June 7, 2007 at 8:47 am
To be fair, I must admit Emo kids get a substantial amount of of condesention, though my post was written more in amusment than anger. I’d take an emo kid over a Britney clone any day. As long as I didn’t have to listen to their poetry.
June 11, 2007 at 1:58 am
shut up
June 11, 2007 at 5:24 am
Just a litle reply to “anon”:
You are obviously one of the ‘new generation-emos” who think you listen to hard-chore music (well you don’t, its pathetic how useless most of the emo-bands are.. With their light-voiced vocalists etc) and only wear black..
The original emos weren’t even wearing all black.. And the expression was actually used mostly on feminine, nerdy guys with glasses and half-long hair covering most of their faces and so on.. Like the guys on the picture…)
I woulden’t call them 100% emo.. But what is emo now these days.. Allmost anyone can be called emo now because everyone has their own opinion of the expression..
(sorry for my bad english)
June 12, 2007 at 7:09 pm
I wish people would stop posting things on the internet about how emos are always depressed! its not always true, i kow plentey of emos who are happy quite alot! Also emo can also just be a fashion statment and a way for teens to dress, I agree the definition of emo has changed alot over the year but emos are indeviduals and unique so there does not have 2 be an accurate definition of the word.
Also there is only one boy who looks even remotly emo in that picture and thats the one with his arms crossed!
and YES they do deserve respect although they may looka bit scary, they are normal human beings just like evryone else accept people seen to think its okay to slate their style!!
*unique*is*my*style*
AGE: 14
June 12, 2007 at 10:54 pm
My Chemical Romance are no more formulaic then Weezer. I think it’s a good formula, They can’t all be Brian Enos.. yet i love those cryin’ emos.
June 13, 2007 at 8:36 pm
Hell yeh we do deserve repect. you have your hates and likes and so do we. so just leave us the f**k alone. if your so worried or supicies then y don’t you become one and find out wat its like to have every one hating on you!! B**ch!!

June 21, 2007 at 3:03 pm
DICKHEAD!!! you obviously dont know any emos because what your talking about is sterotypical!! im an emo and im not depressed! i dont make poeple depressed either! and 3 of the guys in the pic are skaters! and if you seriously decide to write another bitch about a group of people, then become one of them for a while and then bitch about them! you have no clue what your on about!
FUCKTARD!
June 21, 2007 at 10:50 pm
They’ll grow out of it.
June 25, 2007 at 8:28 am
Rahahaha
Wth? No.
Im emo and im not one of those people that whine and cut themselves. Hey im not even depressed unless things happen. You really need to get your facts right about emos before saying crap about them. Just because I might dress and act differently, like piercings and black hair doesnt make me some fucked up loser that sits in a dark room all depressed. Emo’s are just people with their own sense of style.
June 25, 2007 at 3:01 pm
STFU!!
June 25, 2007 at 6:37 pm
emo’s don’t wear pink.emo’s are those kids that hide in corners wear black so that they can feel protected by shadows, like noone can see them and try to kill themselves.emo’s are the people that want to die.i bet that if u went up to a person u no who claims to be emo and asked them if u could put a cigarette out in their eyes, they wouldn’t let u.a true emo would.emo’s want to die.30 seconds t mars, good charlotte, fall out boy, panic!at the disco, and any othe rbands that wear make up aren’t emo, they’re trying to be cool and look like goths.i knoew people who have ended up in the hospital cuz they slit their wrists and jumped in front of cars and tried to drown themselves.they are emo.kids dressing liek punks aren’t emo.u way off.
June 26, 2007 at 1:14 am
If they had their “own sense of style” they wouldn’t refer to themselves as belonging to a collective, as you have just done.
July 7, 2007 at 12:24 am
look bitch…stop writting shit!!! why do you judge us?… i’m emo.. but i’m not always depress as you said!!!… i might be sad sometimes…but it’s also because of you people.. yeah! u that always talk about us..jugding us..fuck you!!!… realy.. you need to think about people.. look at yourself.. and then talk!!!… you’re so fucked up!!…we… as everybody else.. deserve RESPECT!!!
ohhh i almost forget… those kids on the pik..aren’t emo… they are posers!!!
July 9, 2007 at 12:37 am
I watched 30 seconds to Mars guest programme RAGE on Saturday. They played really good music but my god, how much of a wanker is Jarred Leto. His eye liner is way too neat, his hair looks way too straight, he must use a straightener 5 minutes before evey television appearance. And his 15 minutes epic video clip shot in China, what a wank fest. most of it is silent and there are excerpts of the song splintered in at irregular intervals. He needs to have a long hard look at himself.
July 12, 2007 at 9:59 am
Here here. As a result of the recent rise in his wankerability, I have recalled the positive comment I made in 2000 regarding Jared Leto’s performance in Requiem for a Dream.
July 17, 2007 at 4:19 am
WHAT THE FUCK IS YOUR PROBLEM YOU SOUND LIKE A FAG THAT NEEDS TO STUP UP CUZ NOT ALL OF US R ALWAYS DEPRESSED AND IT FAGS LIKE U THAT CUZ ABOUT 15%-25% OF OUR DEPRESSION CUZ U FAGS WONT LEAVE US ALONE AND U GIVE US WEIRD LOOKS LIKE WERE GOING TO FUCKING RAPE U OR KILL U OR SOME SHIT LIKE THAT WHEN WERE NOT SO BACK OFF BITCH!!!!
July 20, 2007 at 2:20 pm
hello my name mariam…I m from italy my contact maria_am_@hotmail.it
July 24, 2007 at 11:06 pm
I can respect Kentucky for expressing his opinions in a civilized manner. I happen to be emo as well but I don’t shove it in people’s faces. I would be much more upset about this article if it was anywhere near as pointless as comment number 25. Let’s just say that in order for me to “STUP UP”, you’d have to go back to high school and take an english course.
July 28, 2007 at 2:40 am
ummm well put, and um i think that the “emo people” your all trying to refure to are the scene kids, you know the ones who wear all black and shit, and rock the “emo” look, mostly cause they have a sense of style…
and i think if your gonna make fun of someone because of the way they dress it might be because you’re insecure about how you dress and wish you were them:), they are kool and i dont care what you have to say about them:):):) ok?
thnks;)
PEACE!!!
July 28, 2007 at 5:56 pm
FFS What has a emo kid ever done to you, and i mean come on they dont do hardly anything say chavs for instance going around mugging people ect.. i mean emos dont do that yet they get all the fucking shit thrown on them because of the way they dress, if you dont like the way they dress leave it do you think that we like the way you dress? i think not. and also with you choosing that picture i see you dont have a clue what an emo is because they are skaters.. adults however should not try and get involved and talk about emos when they dont know what one is and half the stuff you read on the internet about them is bullshit, depression, suicide because its black, adults go to nightclubs and they mostly wear black does that mean they’re going to commit suicide, infact its old grumps like you that make us want to do so and slitting wrists thats only some so dont say we all do, go back to thinking about chavs who go mugging and happy slapping and there teenage mums instead of people who’d rather be on the own doing nothing worng.
July 29, 2007 at 12:55 am
ok….personally i do think they should get respect….its not right for other ppl to judge them…not all emo’s are bad….
July 29, 2007 at 4:47 am
OMG!!!! THIS IS F’n ridiculous, just becous there emo doesnt mean they get treated differently…god!!! yall are soooooo RUDE. dont u think u could cut them(lol)some slack.
July 29, 2007 at 3:52 pm
WTF!!! why do you not respect people just because of the cloths they wear and music they listen to. people like you are the reason that emo and screamo artists are calling themselves “post-hardcore” now. are you a racist to. do you like to make fun of african-americans because there skin is darker than yours or cus they like rap. not to mention the bands you just listed are hardly even close to emo. if you want to see and hear emo listen to chiodos, silverstein, senses fail, and escape the fate. i hope you have a kid, and that kid becomes emo. screw you!!!
July 30, 2007 at 4:27 pm
Dear “theemobitch” (no. 20),
Bringing you back to the real world…
That’s not Emo, that’s mentally ill.
I’m not being judgmental, but that’s not a decription of a healthy human being!
I find that when people pillory a group or a style enough, I actually start to enjoy the friction – here’s to the Emo-Chav Punk revolution!
Enjoy yourselves…
K~*
July 31, 2007 at 6:32 pm
Just because we’re emo doesnt mean we should be treated any differently. I hang aroung with emos and all different people. They are really nice, just because we wear dark clothes and listen to different music doesnt mean we should be treated any different to any others.
August 2, 2007 at 4:32 am
I think that it is small people who think they know it all like you that don’t deserve respect! Just because a person or band chooses to think out of the box you think you have the right to decide if they deserve respect? Get over yourself!! We all deserve respect no matter what we wear or what music we listen to!
August 5, 2007 at 1:29 am
This whole “emo” thing is out of control…i know it is but its just a label some of the music that they play isnt that bad and most of the people who are “emo” are just people who want to be noticed and or punks but dont know how to express it in a way that they will be respected for.i mean i know that emo guys are called “gay or posers” but at least they have something new.And their music is kind of whiny and stupid most of the time but everyone at one point thinks they are worth nothing and should slit thier wrists and cry and die alone. The “emo” style is aimed at the teenage population and sometimes even if you have the best life in the world there is something that will make you deppressed no matter how hard you try and these artists ARE very full of themselves but they also some of the lyrics say things that everyone thinks once in a while.I know that the gutiar playing sucks ass and the beat is horriable but listen to the words…yea they arent THAT meaningfull and are kinda whiny but who cares when you want to be dark and “emo”.i think they deserve a little more repecet than they are getting its not about how they look or act its about the music and lyrics thats all it was ever about.i guess thats all i have to say to that artical…&hearts
August 5, 2007 at 5:34 am
I think some of you may be missing the point here. The question is not whether individuals deserve respect (because in in ideal world we would all be respected as equals) but whether emo as a subculture deserves respect. Frankly I don’t think it does – that doesn’t mean I hate emos though, I just don’t like the music or the self-pitying attitudes. Whilst I think nobody deserves the social ridicule that emos put up with, it comes with the deal. All the stereotypes – goth, mod, punk, indie, chav, muzza…and so on put up with just as much stigma but they don’t whinge about it all the time! That’s the difference, the acceptance that being insulted or judged is all part of it. If you don’t want to be treated as a stereotype, don’t act like one. Sure, we’re all wonderful individual people no matter what’s on the outside – but what do people see first?
August 6, 2007 at 6:03 am
Dear Eric (No. 32). were you dropped at birth? me and by fellow emo-skeptics didn’t make anybody call themselves post-hardcore. infact i was hoping that the music community would reserve that choice label for the new shit i am planning on releasing mid 2008. it will litterally tear your tearducts out from your eye sockets. I just hope you miserable fiends are still with us by then.
August 8, 2007 at 4:11 am

August 9, 2007 at 4:46 pm
WOW, i just read the article and every comment and that took like 4ever.
I personaly wear tight pants, some black, and listen to bands like bullet for my valentine, three days grace, linkin park, papa roach, and paramore. i skate board and HATE FAGGGS that are so blind to make a sterio type saying that people that wear black and listen to different music than yourself deserve less respect than any other human alive. ( adults should really stay out of this topic, they have no clue what it’s like, and should mind their own damn bussiness.) The picture you have posted only in my opinion shows one teen that looks close to even emo. Im a very emotional person and i dont think that because im an emotional person i should be labeled “emo”. One final comment the dude that posted this your a heartless person.
PS. Check out my myspace profile and send me a message. http://www.myspace.com/triny511

August 13, 2007 at 7:37 pm
um duh emo’s should get respect, there fucking emo’s not the damn kkk.emo is a life style, are they hurting any one? no so wuts the problem guyz?,people should be more open minded to difernt things, they just make the world more difent and more unique, can you just imagine if we wer all the same, damn that would get pretty stale pretty damn fast. im not emo but i suport. GO EMOS,at least they have the fucking ballz to show there feelingz in TODAYS FUCKED UP SOCIETY. emo’s arent here for you to pitty them, so why would you ask should i feel bad for them, did they even ask for your pitty,im pretty sure the could care less about you.
August 14, 2007 at 11:40 pm
I’m not emo but I think the emo kids should get just as much respect as us surfers and us skaters and you gay ass preps. The fucking fags get more respect then the emos but it should be the fags that no one likes.
August 15, 2007 at 4:23 am
To the writer of this article, i give you props.
I dont really know what iam, iam just a guy that likes to wear black and grey but not those fag ass tight pants, i like baggy clothes. I also like to be covered in the darkness of shadows(not all the time, just for misc. deeds). Yeah iam deppessed sometimes but i dont go and BITCH ABOUT IT.
My thing is, the kids today wanna be diff right? well how the fuck are you diff if THERE ARE ALOT OF YOU THAT LOOK ALIKE???
I agree with everything you said in your writings, and i also think you should add in there that not only should they NOT get our respect but we should mess with them and haze (i think that is a fitting word)them.
August 15, 2007 at 12:22 pm
they earn it , cuz people hate them so much and they keep going ! there ar also chit emo posers , they do not earn it u can piss all ovr them rawrr!
x
August 20, 2007 at 3:58 am
Bloodjunkie, you’re so lame. Do you think it’s a coincidence that you mentioned eyes and eye sockets in your response? cause it’s not. you stole my fucking material.Use your own god damned words you pan head.
August 20, 2007 at 11:06 pm
I don’t think it’s fair to say emo’s deserve more/less respect than anyone else. It’s up to the individual. Get to know the person before judging them. Most people call me emo, but I aint. Fine, I wear Black, Red, dark colours, and I like all bands like My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park, Papa Roack, Greenday. But Emo’s say that one point of being an emo is to be uniqe, and If you’r classed as Emo then you are not uniqe. I have my own style, act like myself, and don’t let anyone else tell me what to do. But people still look down at me. Persionally I don’t give a fuck, but it really gets some emo’s down, and that is one of the reasons they want to die, If people don’t respect you as you are, what is the point of life?
August 21, 2007 at 1:02 am
yes they do.
you need to stop talking about amo kids and making them seem like a disgrace.
they are most certainly not.
they have their own way of expressing themselves.
also emo kids arent always depressed.
get a grip people.
August 21, 2007 at 2:12 pm
Most of the so called “emos” I know are either just posing because it’s what’s in right now or are supposedly depressed because of their “tough” lives. It’s seems like it’s just a phase and they’ll get through it eventually. And to Eric, how the hell is questioning a subculture the same as being racist. A person doesn’t choose their skin color or race. Prejudice against race is stupid. But people choose to dress/act like an emo. The person who wrote the article has the right to question that subculture. Especially because of it’s annoying members and music (IMO).
August 21, 2007 at 10:01 pm
*shrugs* the fact they dress a certain way isn’t hurting anything is it? i mean, they’re people. so they have $10 and want to wear black.
hehe, i listen to my chemical romance, those guys are lifesavers, seriously. for the last few days i’ve been listening to three cheers for sweet revenge, for hours… something really rotten happened in my family and their lyrics just get to me, and make me better. can’t say they’ve saved *my* life, but they’ve made it a whole lot better and more bearable.
peace.
August 23, 2007 at 5:16 am
This made me feel compelled to write my veiws on the whole emo thing. It’s in my Livejournal, I had so much to say
Read it, and tell me what you think:
http://eat-my-thoughts.livejournal.com
August 26, 2007 at 2:34 am
hey, dude, STFU! what the f*ck is wrong with all of you preps? omfg dude nothing wrong with being a lil over emotional and sensitve and wearing black etc. just cause “emo” is kinda diff than .. well like you are doesn’t mean they’re “evil” it’s just a style GOD! omg your kinda ppl is really starting to freaking piss me off! and yeah, anon is right the kids on the pic arn’t even emo.. and as you might be able to see from my name i’m emo and i’m not even depressed at all i mean i’m just sensitive and stuff i’d only get depressed when something (bad) happens
August 26, 2007 at 2:42 am
okay then you DICKHEAD why the freaking hell are you writing this crap, judging us, telling LIES all LIES? you should know that emo ppl arn;t always depressed and stuff the fact that we wear black and eyeliner (well i wear eyeliner sometimes not that often) doesn’t make us evil or phsyco or w/e you might think we’re just normal ppl just with a diff kinda way of life/life style gah your kinda ppl make me sick!
last thing i have to say to the phsycopath who has wrote/typed this crap is GO SUCK YOUR DAD’S DICK IN HELL!
September 16, 2007 at 10:41 am
Actually, I Agree with EmoRoland. Of course Emo’s deserve respect!!!! Thay are real human beings who are not afraid to show their feelings. It’s chav’s that are violent and dangerous, they should be all be shot. Emo’s are not always depressed, so don’t judge people on steryotypes, bitch. AND WHAT THE HELL IS ALL THIS CRAP ABOUT BANDS?!?!?!? If you bothered to do some reseach, you would learn that Gee Way was an eyewitness to the 9/11 attacks which disturbed him greatly. My Chemical Romance don’t write songs for the market, they write them to try and connect with todays teenagers because they care about people’s health and welfare, much more than all rap/R&B/any other artist can be bothered to do.
Delete this crap at once.
September 18, 2007 at 12:50 am
Wow, you got a hell of a reaction here. I didn’t know you were a phsycopath (sic).
I always thought emo was bands like Weezer (not a fan, by the way).
In addition, it’s funny to read people saying “I’m emo, and I…”
Who the hell labels themselves? Terribly restrictive on your personality.
September 19, 2007 at 7:51 pm
Hmmmm big kids labeling children? Well this is just sad. Im 16 and im highschool. i see these “emo” kids all the time. they arnt “emo”. they dress like that because they like the fashion…god forbid they dress how they like. anyone who connects how someone acts with how they dress is a moron. Maybe instead of watching from afar and trying to judge them, walk up to them and talk with them. Dont ask questions, hang out with them and just see how they act. You might be surprised that “emos” arnt the depressed, taking life for granted, bunch of losers that you seem to think they are.
September 19, 2007 at 7:53 pm
Oh and EmoRoland…how old are you? 12? i mean christ…”WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PREPS” good job judging and labeling them the say way they did with you. shows how much of a better person you are. you’re just as idiotic as the person who wrote this article
September 19, 2007 at 7:55 pm
And im aware of many people adults who are depressed…many more adults than kids…so please, stop trying to find meaning in our lives just because you cant find anything in your own.
September 24, 2007 at 8:49 am

dumb ass writer get your shit straight fucking stereotype
November 4, 2007 at 9:25 pm
This… This is ridiculious.
Why is it that humans feel they need to critize each other? Call me a hippy, cuz I know I sure as hell sound like one, but this is fucked.
History text review:
The word ‘emo’ was origionally formed to discribe a certain genre of music, and is short for EMOTIONAL. Later on, that same abbreviation was used on certain individuals. But of course, as humans, always used in a negative connotation. ‘you cry because you’re sad, so you must be emo,’ or how about ’suicidal and depressed people are emo.’ No. What about really happy people? They show emotion, they are emotional, why the hell don’t they follow that same train thought? Because we’re human, we like to take each other down a notch, be dicks and make each other bleed. Thats why the word “emo” is now negative, because it emboddies everything we dont like about each other, such as the word “gay” once did.
… sorry, I ranted there a bit…
Anyways, now the word has evolved again, and “Emo” is a fashion statement. Kids. They’ll change what they want and use it to they’re own means. Which is cool, in fact, to me, I find it more beliveable that “emo” is a style of clothing more than anything else.
But how does this reflect on adults? It doesn’t. Not at all. If you’re worried about some teen dressed in black and walking into poles because he can’t see through his hair, then you must live in the most upperclass neighbour hood in the existense of time. You want something to worry about? Go downtown and count the druggies lying on the sidewalk, or that greasy man who keeps eyeing your Jetta.
My god.
Who cares how you’re kid dresses? You’re worrid if they’ll start cutting themselves? Chances are they got more going on with their life than the clothes they wear and the music they listen to.
go out and educate yourselves, retard.

Just be yourself. Dress the way you think is cool, not the way that your friends think is cool. If you want to truly be an individual, then stand up for what you truly believe in, not what some self indulgent, 30 year old teenager with black eyeliner and a crooked tie moans over a few power chords.
Be yourself.
Think for yourself.
Don’t let music do your thinking for you.

U SUCK!!!!!! Do you even have any emo friends? and how old are you, like 87 ?! You act like u have seen it all and have great knowledge and all that s**t! If you have ever met an emo person you’d realize that they are awesome and are just as good as you think you are! They deserve just as much respect as you don’t!( if that’s do difficult fot you to comp[rehend, it means that you deserve so little respect that the emos should get twice as much as you!!!) By the way, Im emo and have never gotten a “C” in m life, always higher, I never cut, I have hot hair, have tons of friends, and am not completely depressed even though i should be considering all the s**t that gos on in my life! So next time you want to talk about s**t that you have no idea about, DON’T!!!!!!!
I hope you meet an emo person that read this and they beat the s**t out of u!
emojon, I luv you for what u wrote!

i have to disagree with you. entirely and completely. i know that people have their opinions but that is horrible. you bashed all of my favorite bands along with everyone elses. even though YOU dont like the music doesnt mean that other people dont. my chemical romance is one of my favorite bands at the moment. you cant judge them just by reading their lyrics. it doesnt mean thats the way they really are. half of the lyrics these days are either written by OTHER people, not the artists, OR they write them because they want to. not because they are “emo”. i think that you are judging too soon and that you arent focusing on what anything really means. im not going to say that my music is better than old stuff because ive never listened to old stuff, but you cant be bashing other bands.

There is nothing wrong with being emo! Cut them some slack and don’t just crawl along with all those freaking stereotypes. Gosh! You’re entitled to your opinion but really- all those bands you mentioned are actually really awesome too. So WTH!!!

Hehe, I gues you’ve got a point ..
But I’m just confused, I don’t even know the definition of Emo’s.
Only that it’s a short word for Emotional ..
But it’s like raped now, everybody’s going “I’m Emo”, just coz Bill Kaulitz goes on with his Emo hair and makeup like mad, and Japanese Cartoons ..
Hmm, I’m blissfully ignorant, but still I’m annoyed – it’s like wannabe rockers, they’re not truly like that, they dont feel the music, they just pretend.
And so does all the Emo’s I’ve seen so far.
But I should shut up, I haven’t got a clue. On the other hand, it doesn’t tickle my fancy, to take my time to read all sorts of shit about Emo’s, and the Emo style during the year.
Meh, I don’t know shit.
But yes still, most of those kids just piss me off.. coz clearly they just need the attention, like so many others who flirt with alternative lifestyles (and dressing).

Don’t be such a bitch, I, my self, am one of those you are talking about. Of course they deserve respect! They are just like any of us, they are people too. Imagine people disrespecting you for the way you dress, or the music you listen to.
If people didn’t respect each other because of silly things like that, we wouldn’t get ANYWHERE in life.
LIVE and LET LIVE

Alright, I’m not necessarily saying that you guys are wrong but I do believe that you need to get you facts straight. I agree on with what you are saying about respect. Although, I think that everyone needs to gain more respect for others. Frankly, I don’t think that a lot of people deserve respect but that doesn’t mean that I’m not going to at least try to make it seem like I’m respecting them. I am not emo by any means but I have met my share of them and they are just as decent as anyone else. Sure the names of there bands are a little… odd, but you have to admit that there lyrics are kind of catchy. I think that if someone wants to be perceived as emo or just is emo, then we should let them be. Who’s to say what being genre is weird or not. Who cares? Why does this have to be so controversial? Don’t we have more important things to whine about?
By the way, calling Good Charlotte emo is kind of like calling Linkin Park emo. Also, no one is asking you to like any kind of music. If you have a problem with it then just don’t listen to it. That’s what I do with the music I don’t like.
December 21, 2007 at 9:07 pm
Why would you think that all emos are like that?
I like every single band you wrote about in there. As in ALL of them, including Death Cab for Cutie and Bright Eyes(Calendar Hung Itself= best song ever). But you know, I listen to other stuff too. Everything from your classic ‘emo’ bands like The Used, to Emilie Simon, The Kooks, Franz Ferdinand, The White Stripes, Art Brut, etc.
Okay, where Good Charlotte and emo even begin to apply to each other is when I walk into AE to shop for clothes. No connection, nothing alike. And ‘Rachel’? Linkin Park is a terrible example. Haven’t you ever heard ‘Bleed it Out’?
Bluntly; I don’t like when people call me emo. I don’t have side bangs, although I have bangs parted in the middle with a similar style to that of side bangs. I like skinny jeans. I like band tees and ties, but I also like ballet flats and polka dots and stripes and plaids and hairbows and loud accecories. I like clothing with a TWIST.
I LOVE emo syle, I won’t deny it. And I love to twist it and make it my own style.
I wear my shirts without having to worry about long sleeves, cause I don’t have cuts on my wrists thankyouverymuch.
Welp, what’re you going to do about it?
As for many of the above comments saying “go to hell I’m emo you make me sad”, I am going to cough now and say “posers” because who says emos are all depressed?
I am a perfectly happy person, I love Hello Kitty, don’t worry, I won’t throw myself off a building because of the torture that is my normal suburban life, with my awesome friends, who are and aren’t what you call “emo”.
I am interested in emo style. So what? I don’t want to be labeled.

I think the real question here is do you deserve respect. It’s so narrow-minded to judge that many people by their clothes and music style. Respect should be judged on a personal basis, not by generalizing over a large group of people who happen to look a similar.
If you’re worried about our generation becoming the future, you’re forgetting the past ones that started off way worse. Rates of illicit drug use, suicide, underage drinking, sex, and violent crime have been decreasing.
Respect should be determined by knowing the individual. Just because you dislike the way someone dresses or the music they listen doesn’t give a valid reason not to respect them. If you would like insult the emo style again, or any other style, please make sure you study up on them a bit so you don’t look like an inane and prejudice jerk.
